It was just one year ago I was coming off my second partial knee replacement and was working on rehabing two knees at the same time. I never thought I would backpack again.



I left the parking lot (Penn Blvd) with great concern. As I hiked over the hills andthrough the valleys I began to fall in love with the trail. It was challenging (good ascents and rocky stairs), it was well marked, and it contained some of the best views I have ever seen in this state.



As I ate my lunch on the overlook staring down at Bear and Bean Lake I was overcome with the joy of being able to backpack again as well as the beauty of the land.



I hiked to the East Palliades campsite which was a great camping spot. My only disapponitment was finding out on the trail that you could only camp in a campsite for one night. This spot was wonderful.



I went to sleep Friday night listening to a grouse drumming his wings and and owl hooting down my the creek.



I arose Sat. morning to about 2 inches of slushy snow. I quickly ate my breakfast and day hiked to MOunt Trudee - acomplishing the goal I had set out on.



When I arrived back to my campsite I decided I would hike out that day (for two reasons - I had to move and everything was getting wet and slippery with the snow).



I took the Twin Lakes trail on the way back for some new scenery. Again I enjoyed the challenge of the hike and the beauty of the woods. I arrived back at my car at about 3 pm.



I will certian hike this section again and plan on expanding the territory I will cover. I used hiking poles which were very helpful on the steep and rocky sections.



I want to thank all of those respondsible for developing this trail. I consider it the find of a life time.
