We were glad we went from Cook Co 1 to Temperance River Wayside since there is a long, long steep descent going down to the Temperance River Road.
From Cook Co 1, the trail goes through a gorgeous old growth maple forest, full of wildflowers, and then climbs to Tower Overlook with a great view. It then descends and goes along Boney Meadows with extensive ponds for almost a mile. I've seen moose here in the past but not this time. The trail then follows the Cross River for several miles -- absolutely gorgeous. There are a couple of steep climbs in here as you climb around headlands. After the steep descent down to the Temperance River Road, you cross the road and go along the Temperance River for over a mile. Then the icing on the cake is following the river through the Temperance River Gorge back to the parking area on Hwy 61. The whole hike was breathtaking. |
