Left from Castle Danger parking lot Friday afternoon in beautiful weather. Brief steep climb to Wolf Rock and short jaunt to the overlook spur. Spotted three turkey vultures circling overhead and hoped it wasn't fortelling the sucess of the rest of our trip. Stayed overnight at the West Gooseberry camp site-beautiful site overlooking the Gooseberry river. Plenty of water in the river (it even tasted good!) Started raining Saturday morning as we started out on the trail making a miserable hike with temperatures in the upper 40's. The low areas in the trail collected all of the moisture so we had some wet muddy traverses. Camped overnight at Gooseberry falls State Park (hot showers). Spent Sunday hiking the trails around the park-well maintained but well used on the weekends. It would sure be nice if there was a trail corridor between the SHT and the campground that did not include walking on the park road. |
