Linking people with nature by footpath along Lake Superior's North Shore.
August 8, 2002; Nine of us met at the Finland Rec Center. It took awhile to get organized, but everything worked out and off we went. Our first night was spent at the North Egge Lake Campsite. Our weather was great, the campsite was beautiful, we enjoyed talking with each other, reading books and sitting around. We were bugged by sticky flies (the kind that just seem to stick to you, but don't bite) that magically went away at supper time. The evening was beautiful and several of our nine backpackers chimed in to snore a chorus of "Are You Lonely Tonight", I think. August 9, 2002; We left for the South Sonyu Lake Campsite. We all really liked the campsite and especially the little island. A storybook place, if I ever saw one. We had a good campfire, great company, and a beautiful sunset. August 10, 2002; It rained last night, so everything was wet when we packed up. Our goal was the Aspen Knob Campsite. It rained all morning while we hiked and our campsite was so close to the end that we all decided to head out rather than spend the night. Our hikers were John, Jeff, and Nick Rogness, Roberta Getchel, Richard and Lori Gitar, and Al Fabbro. Art Neuman dayhiked with us the first day. Thank you all for coming and we hope to see you next year. Max and Frank Frucci. |
